Solvei
comes from the town of Oslo in Norway, where she was raised
by an American father and Norwegian mother both opera singers.
Solvei’s professional career started at the tender age of 15
as a dancer.
I felt more comfortable with this silent form of expression
as there were enough singers in the family besides I was very
shy, I mean painfully shy, and even the thought of singing in
public was terrifying. |

Solvei’s
dancing career excelled quickly, performing and touring with
Scandinavia’s great comedy acts. Her journey led to France
and England, performing with such artists as Sir Elton John.
But injuries brought the dancing career to a screeching halt,
and after painstaking surgeries and a whole lot of soul searchingÓ,
she moved to New York with a grant from the Norwegian government
to study acting.
My
first years as a kid took place in my dad’s hometown, Chicago
coming back to America represented a new chapter in my life,
I went through many hardships, but in the long run it made
me stronger. |

Solvei
didn’t stay in New York after her grant ran out, but traveled
around the country, spending a lot of time among the Native
American people.
I guess my mindset is not that of a white person, if there
is such a thing... besides I always felt very accepted and
safe with Indian people A few years ago Solvei moved to
Los Angeles, this is where she found her voice and discovered
her passion for song writing.
The idea of having a band, performing my own music at top
venues in Los Angeles well it seemed completely absurd to
me, and so far fetched just a few years ago, yet this is
what happened! Solvei was nominated Best Independent Artist
of the year by the Los Angeles Music Awards in 2003 - the
same year she began performing as a singer/song writer.
Her tunes have been aired on K-Jazz and KCRW, and she has
received rave reviews for her live shows and compositions
from Entertainment Today, LA Weekly, Tolucan Times, and
Campus Circle.
Expressing
myself as a vocalist for me it’s really about igniting
passion, and discovering my true voice, all the stuff
I do to get there is what makes life beautiful and challenging
at the same time...
Solvei recently finished recording a project with Norwegian
Grammy winning musicians at Paratone Studio in Oslo.
Working with an International group of musicians rubs
off on the music. I like it a lot, and I look forward
to many more collaborations.
